ANACOSTIA COORDINATING COUNCIL

The Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC) was established in 1983 as a volunteer membership consortium of organizations and individuals involved with the revitalization of Anacostia and its adjacent neighborhoods.  Each year the ACC teams up with an incredible group of city-wide partners and agencies to bring more than 100 events to Ward 8. ACC is involved in information gathering and sharing, networking, advocacy and community organizing. Every year, ACC sponsors or co-sponsors several evening community meetings that attract hundreds of residents. The Anacostia Coordinating Council has been involved in hundreds of activities that address the daily needs of our community members.

To address the opioid crisis, ACC is working in conjunction with the Transformers, which is a group of approximately 60 community leaders with organizations based in Ward 7 & 8 who are dedicated to the collective focus to facilitate activities for local youth that will expose them to more options in life over and above what they have now. To tackle this problem, ACC will partner with local faith-based organizations, the local Prevention Center, United Planning Organization (UPO), as well as other community-Based Organizations (CBO’s)

ACC will act as fiscal sponsor for the Transformers along with their faith-based partners. This collaboration is designed to support the implementation of the Transformers Rite of Passage Program that is focused on helping District of Columbia East of The River youth to overcome the trauma they have experienced resulting from systemic violence and drug abuse, to learn how to develop a healthy well-being to be better positioned to make better choices for their lives. This proven strategy will assist in prevent them from turning to the abuse of drugs, alcohol, and opioids.
